Interview with Coach Tom Taylor
By Riley Burns
On the gridiron this year the Saints played a hard fought season. Whether it was on the field or off, they were able to come together and truly become a family. The team rotated Captains, so this interview is with Coach Taylor.
What were the key goals for the season?
We finished over .500 and that was a goal.
What was a typical practice like?
Very high intensity on field as well as video and lifting sessions.
How did the team go about preparing for their big meets or games?
We try to take the season one week at a time and prepare them for the opponent we will see that week.
Overall, how did the season end up?
5-4, which was not our goal, but we lost some close games and that really hurt us. We lost three of the games by a combined total of just 12 points. I had a great group of kids and players this year, and despite falling a little short of our goals it was one of the best and most unselfish group of players I ever had.
Coach Taylor emphasized how much he enjoyed the players this year, and appreciated the strong dedication they showed throughout the entire season.
As he retires from Canterbury after this year, he will be greatly missed on campus and on the field. But he will continue to be a part of helping his players get to the college level. Coach Taylor has been an inspiring coach during his tenure at Canterbury. We all wish him the best as he goes into retirement.
