Varsity Water Polo Fall Season Roundup

Interview with Captains Nikhil Trivedi ‘17 and Conner Murphy ‘17

By Ali Goracy

As captains, what were your key goals for the season? Were they met?

Our goal was to make every player better by the end of the season, become a more unified team, and work together during games. By the end of the season we had more players than we started with who progressed well through the season. We were also able to work together better in games and our team chemistry together.

How did you prepare for tough matches?

When we knew we were facing a heavily fortified opponent, we knew that the only thing we could do was to have fun and enjoy the game. We knew we had to maintain good sportsmanship and positive mindsets. We played music during warm ups and even in our toughest games we cracked jokes amongst ourselves and the coaches.

How did the overall season turn out?

This year we moved into the NEPSAC League so we were forced to play tougher opponents. The team became more competitive and found unique ways to work around our disadvantages. This was especially displayed at our end-of-the-year tournament. We placed second overall after coming in as the underdogs.

What were the team’s strength and weakness?

One of our weaknesses was attendance to practice and field awareness. However, throughout the season, many players developed a better sense of field awareness and how the game is played. Some strengths were we had great speed and we were able to use our strengths as a way to overcome the difficulties we faced. We learned throughout the season how to make better passes and more precise shots. We also had a strong presence in the cage from our goalkeepers. Amongst the team we had a very positive attitude and always looking forward to games. We want to thank our great coaches for helping us through the year.
