During Spring break, when most of us were sleeping late and relaxing, Mr. Morin was in San Francisco competing in a 50-mile race. The race started and finished in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge. The race led Mr. Morin and his competitors up California hills, along beaches, cliffs, rivers, and through forests.
Mr. Morin competes in about ten races a year, and while this was his first 50-mile race, he is a seasoned racer. He has raced in marathons, half-marathons and also rowed in many crew regattas. Locally, he will be competing in his first cycling competition at the Lime Rock racetrack in Salisbury, CT.
Even though this was his first 50-mile race, Mr. Morin placed in the top third against seasoned racers. “Racing 50 miles is completely different from the 2000 meters that make up a crew regatta. And the scenery of this racing trail is unparalleled. There is no better way to see the world than by foot,” said Mr. Morin.
There are many things that Mr. Morin enjoys about competing, whether in a regatta, on foot, or – lately – on a bicycle. But there are two things in particular that drive him. “My two favorite parts of all racing are first, the camaraderie of the racing community, and second, the feeling of coming from behind to win.
