Varsity Volleyball Fall Season Roundup

Interview with Captain Courtney Dunham ‘17

By Nova Chen

What were the key goals for the season and did you meet them?

The key goal of the season was that we wanted to win at least one game.

We won three, so that would be considered a success. We wanted to be able to work together as a team and to give our best effort in every game even if it did not result in a victory.

What was a typical practice like?

We started with a warm up, then we did some drills such as hitting lines. We ran for conditioning, but also did some other workouts to give a bit of variety.

Some of my favorite drills were scrimmages and short court, where we would play two on two using half of the court in front of the ten foot line.

How did the team go about preparing for their big meets or games?

Before the Pinkout, which is our biggest game, EJ would yell and cheer at us on the microphone so that we would get used to the noise. We would keep practice consistent before games and sometimes have a team dinner to get us pumped up.

In addition, we would have talks about how we needed to play to succeed.

Overall how did the season end up?

It was better than expected because I was anticipating only winning one game.

The victory against Berkshire was one of the highlights of the season when we were down two going into the third set and then we shockingly won in five sets.

We never gave up in our games and tended to have a rough start, but we were sometimes able to bring it back and take sets unexpectedly.

The team only had one senior so it should be in shape to have a great season next year.
